The Olympics Display

The "Olympic Games" scheme of work and reources cover the curriculum areas of Art, R.E/Culture and Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish, German, French and Chinese). The pack ties in with the Life Skills 'Application of Maths' and 'Improving own Learning and Performance'. The pack contains:

• images of national dancers from diverse cultures
• table of 100m world record holders plotting the progress of athletes over recent years
• route taken by the Olympic torch for children to calculate route taken and miles covered
• images of ancient Greek Olympian athletes and map of ancient Greece, with information about ancient Olympic Games events, prizes and format
• information on format and significance of modern Olympic Games uniting athletes from all 5 continents
• images and captions explaining significance of Olympic rings, Olympic torch, Chinese 2008 emblem and previous emblems from host nations
• map of the world for children to identify continents and position correctly
• flags and cultural information on 5 nations from 5 continents (25 in all) for children to identify and position correctly on map of the world
• MFL - translations into French, Spanish, German and Chinese of colours, weather, days of the week, numbers to 100 and key phrases
• recipes for simple dishes from around the world
• suggestions for simple games and events for children to stage their own mini Olympic ganes
